Apparently the reason why the Chanel Spring/Summer 2012 runway show had extremely limited seating was because Karl Lagerfield decided that it should take place on a plane. The plane took five days to build, but I'm almost refreshed to see Chanel stick to the glamour and flourish that is associated with mega runway shows. The extravagance of it all is almost too decadently sweet but with so many shows being cut I need to make due with the ones I still have left to watch. Just to note, because I had wondered at first myself, the plane is not real and did not take flight (thought wouldn't it be cool if it did!) but they did have fake clouds passing them by. Stewards walked up and down the aisle offering champagne to the prized few guest, the big influence of blue and sky is shown in the design of the plane's interior, blue carpet with tiny little Chanel logos dotted all throughout subtly indicated that Chanel's purpose in clothing design is to pay extremely close attention to every possible detail.

Throughout the show there were subtle hints of a futuristic era made possible by the necklines of a lot of the pieces, as well as a hint of 1960's idealized stewardesses, how could you not make a stewardess reference when you're on a plane? Blue was a theme in this show reflecting back on the airplane theme and blue sky, Karl Lagerfield even went so far as to lightly suggest that an influence may have also been drawn from his new little kitty's eyes. Some of the dresses even seemed to resemble the night sky from an airplane window, stars glittering, jewels glittering, dark blue. Lagerfield stated that his intentions with the outfits was to make them seem almost like jeans hence models walking with their hands in their pockets and drop waists, though honestly my mind is as far from jeans as it could possibly be. Not to mention the hair is also to die for, there must be loads of hairspray used there but aided with the accent of feathers, it manages to give off a feathery soft grungy feel.

My only complaint is, why oh why was Cameron Diaz invited? The years have not been kind to her, she isn't a very well dressed person, she's not even a good actress, why people like her I will never understand. Elizabeth Olsen however was the stand out start of the morning to me, those Olsen sisters really know their fashion, they figured out that mystery a long time ago.
